Before you start

How do I create or update a rescue USB?

Download MBUT and open its Rescue creator from Disk tools, or from Check for updates → Build or refresh MB Rescue locally. The creator uses your installed Microsoft ADK and Windows PE add-on; if needed, it downloads Microsoft’s installers and opens their setup windows for you to review.

If Windows reports component error 87, the creator automatically uses a fresh temporary Windows environment and remembers successful recovery. Allow 16 GiB free and 30–60 minutes; a verified helper downloads on first use. Prepare the image first. You can keep the resulting ISO or select a separate USB and confirm its erasure. To refresh an existing USB, back up its files and create it again from a new local build. Preparing an image never writes to a USB. Prebuilt Windows PE images are no longer distributed here.

Where is the memory test?

The separate MemTest86 startup option belongs to the prepared four-choice USB menu. Use MBUT's Rescue creator and import your official MemTest86 Free download for that menu. The fourth USB startup option is MB File Manager for copying files and folders. The ISO includes the USB menu files for Rufus; direct ISO boot opens the rescue tool picker.

How do I connect with MB Remote?

Download and extract the ZIP on both PCs, then open MB Remote.exe on each. The connection setup file is already included; keep the extracted files together. You do not need a separate Tailscale account or a setup file from Mike.

Enter the other PC's 12-digit PC number to request a connection. The person at that PC approves viewing and control. You can then share the screen, use its mouse and keyboard, and copy files between the PCs.

Trusting a PC is optional. Closing MB Remote stops access, and Ctrl+Shift+F12 stops mouse and keyboard control. Existing users already connected to this service do not need to reinstall.

What if MB Remote says registrations are paused or access is revoked?

Mike manages access to the connection service. New PCs can join while registrations are open. If registrations are paused or your PC's access has been revoked, contact Mike. Existing approved PCs can still connect while new registrations are paused.

Are these finished commercial products?

These are preview releases for personal recovery, maintenance and support. Keep backups of important data, save recovered files to a different drive, and test rescue media on the hardware you intend to use.
